Asian elephant (Elephas maximus)

Arrived at Amersfoort on October 16, 2007.
Alexander came from the zoo of Antwerp but is traveling through Western Europe. Born in Israel he moved to Munster Zoo in Germany at the age of 16. After the death of Ramon Rotterdam Zoo needed a new bull and asked for Alexander: he arrived in Rotterdam on November 4, 1998. He is a proven breeder with 10 babies in Rotterdam (including one stillbirth). Antwerp Zoo also wanted some young elephants and so Alexander was transported to this old zoo on April 17, 2007 where he mated some females which resulted in the birth of Kai-Mook in 2009. Finally he stepped into another lorrie for his trip to Amersfoort Zoo where he might stay for 5 years or longer. On November 10, 2009 he became father again: Indra gave birth to Kina.
