Amersfoort Zoo has two buildings for the elephants. One for the bull, and one for the rest of the herd.  The bulls house was erected in 2004.

The zoo is planning to build a new home for the herd. An elephanthouse is just a covered outside enclosure. This is the remarkable vision of the zoo. Therefore the floor of the new house will be covered with sand. Like it is in a part of the bulls house. One large room for the herd with a few boxes to separate an elephant when necessary.  The preparations started at the end of 2008.
