Asian elephant (Elephas maximus)
Female, born July 28, 1988 in Myranmar (Birma)
Arrived June 5, 1989 at Amersfoort Zoo.
Jula is the daughter of Win Thida.
She is the lowest in rank of the herd of Amersfoort. A typical behavior of the lower ranks is to eat alone. I watched her after the keepers throwed some hay into the enclosure. Jula picked up some hay, walked away from the other elephants, and begun to eat at a quiet corner of the enclosure.
