African elephant (Loxodonta africana) Female, born in 1993 in South Africa Arrived on September 15, 2008 at Safari Beekse Bergen
Djomba, also called Dzomba, was born in Kruger National Park in South Africa. She was captured and together with another elephant from Kruger, Goni, sold to the zoo of Rostock, Germany where they arrived on July 13, 1995. From Rostock, Djomba moved to Duisburg Zoo, Germany, but this time for only a few months. She finally came to Beekse Bergen on September 15, 2008 where she met her new room mates. Djomba is a dominant lady, which causes some troubles within the herd. The herd who also lost two other elephants by transfers, another one (Olga) by death, and was disturbed more with the arrival of Sabi from Hale Zoo, Germany. To be continued... |
