Erna

African elephant (Loxodonta africana)

Female, born circa  January, 1987 in Zimbabwe

Arrived on May 26, 1988 at Safari Beekse Bergen

Erna is an intelligent, and always eager to learn, elephant. She's third in ranking. Within the group she's calm and peaceful. Sometimes Shiba, the matriarch, reminds her of her position in the herd, but that never minds Erna: she simply walks away.

Erna has very little tusks, and a rugged forehead.

She moved on April 16, 2009 to the zoo of Warsaw in Poland.

Olga

African elephant (Loxodonta africana)

Female, born circa  January, 1987 in Zimbabwe, died on August 20, 2009 in Hilvarenbeek.

Arrived on May 26, 1988 at Safari Beekse Bergen

The most recognizable elephant of Safari Beekse Bergen was Olga: she had two large, folded ears. Olga was the lowest in ranking, and was a very friendly elephant. Sometimes a little quarrel with Carla, but only when the two were separated from the rest of the herd. She was most of the time alone.

On August 20, 2009, there was a fight between some of the elephants during a thunderstorm when the animals stood outside. What happened is unsure but Olga was serious wounded and the veternerian only could euthanise her.
