Sabi
African elephant (Loxodonta africana)
Female, born in 1985 in Zimbabwe
Arrived on July 21, 2009 at Safari Beekse Bergen
Sabi was born in the wild in Zimbabwe, was captured when she was a baby, and brought to Munich Zoo, Germany. She lived there for seven years when she moved on July 29, 1992 to Vienna Zoo, Austria. She gave birth to her first son Abu on April 25, 2001. Abu was born through artificial insemination.
With her son, Sabi was send to Halle Zoo, Germany where Abu still lives. Sabi finally was send to Beekse Bergen. The first weeks she lived togheter with the bull Calimero before she is introduced to the herd.
