The elephants enclosure of Rotterdam Zoo is part of Taman Indah: a forest with the main inhabitants:  Asian elephants, Indian rhinos, and Malayan tapirs. The large indoor enclosure for the elephants is about one third of the total area of Taman Indah. Inside is a typical rainforest with trees, plants, rocks and water, and some small animals including a pair of gibbons.

The elephants outside enclosure is divided into three parts. One large part for the herd (females and offspring), and two smaller parts for the bull(s). All elephants can use the large pond.

The outside enclosures are surrounded by trees and bushes which give the visitors the feeling of entering an open space in the woods where some elephants are roaming.
