| The outside enclosure of Burgers' Zoo | ||
|
The present exhibit was build in 1993/04. A new enclosure was needed because the Desert was planned on the area of some animal exhibtis, including that of the elephants. The elephanthouse is integrated in the building of the Desert. The outside enclosure exists of a large pond, a mudbath and sand. Everything what an elephant needs. Trees and bushes are surrounding the enclosure. During the day, there is always somewhere some shade for the animals. And the trees are giving you the idea of a wood with some elephants roaming through. Just like in the wild. The public can wath the elephants at only a few places. So, the elephants have some privacy. At some places in the "rocks", there is food hidden. The elephants can not just take the food. No, only with some effort, they can get it. This is to give them something to do. |
