Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) Female, born circa 1933 in Myanmar (Burma). Arrival in Emmen: May 31, 1939, died in August 1949 in Emmen Sheila is also called 'Stella' Sheila came together with Katinka to Emmen. Both were six years old. First elephant Oelie did not had much space in her enclosure, the two newcomers had to share the same one. After the Second World War Emmen build a new 'pachyderm house'. The enclosure had an electrial wire fence. Emmen was the first zoo who used this for elephants! |

Somewhere in the mid fifties
Sheila disapeared from the documents. Did she died or was she moved
elsewhere? It is not known. On the photos: Sheila together with Katinka. On the photo above Sheila is standing in front of Katinka. And on the other two photos Sheila is standing behind Katinka. |
