Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) Female, born in circa 1969 in Thailand. To Emmen on May 12, 1986, to Budapest on October 21, 1996. After the closing of Wassenaar Zoo Zitta was bought by Emmen Zoo for 35,000 Guilder (15,785 Euros). While her friend the bull Baba was send to Amsterdam Zoo. Zitta was 4,500 kilograms when she arrived at Emmen Zoo on May 12, 1986. Like Hella Zitta was not feeling comfortable amongst the young herd who arrived in 1988. Both friends were send to Budapest Zoo on October 21, 1996, where both are stil living today. On the photo on the left: Zitta with Hella and Annabel near the old pachyderm house. |
